The Moon and the Empress

The Major Arcana are all paired in such a way that eleven unique double-energies are formed. The Moon path's partner is the Empress, and this fact reveals a little-known facet of the Moon. It is the place of greatest fertility and growth. One could look at it this way. For an ordinary consciousness, an every day task such as going grocery shopping is easy and simple. Many things in life are this way, and we take them for granted. What can happen, however, is that ordinary tasks must sometimes be performed under great duress. For example, under ordinary circumstances the path that winds up from the water through the two towers represents a short, easy distance. But the conditions are awry - the lobster is out of its element - it cannot see past a small area around itself - and it is beset on all side by predators. And yet if it persists, it will cross through the towers. In this way a simple task can become an immense ordeal - and so for the depressed, for the grief stricken, for the one undergoing invisible affliction, this short journey is LONG. The fog is down and every resource of self confidence, resilience, and perseverance is necessary. To succeed at a simple task under truly adverse conditions is heroic.

The Empress is the promotor of growth - the nurturer. Here's a truth: growth is uncomfortable. The WAY through is uncomfortable AND terrifying. But it is magnificence. The warriors who succeed, like the scarab, in walking the Moon path are able to experience and grow from discomfort. They have the blessing of the Mother. In a short span, we can become multiplied in our life-powers a thousand-fold, if we manifest the confidence to find the Empress' love in the valley of peril that is the moon. To succeed at the moon-path is to succeed at life itself. Persist.

The Moon is the birth canal. There is nothing more dangerous or uncomfortable than birth. And yet. This is the glory. So. Remember this where the shadows loom tall. Remember this on the paths of chapel perilous. The Great Mother is here. Persevere into her love, and carry life out and into a new world. Persevere.

This week, you might ask the Tarot: "In what ways should we grow?"
